Announcement
The new short form was announced by UNU Rector and UN Under-Secretary-General Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala during a stakeholder event in Dresden in July 2026.

Background
The United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources, formerly known as UNU-FLORES, has adopted UNU Resource Nexus as its new short form. The change reflects the Institute’s longstanding scientific identity and its focus on integrated approaches to the sustainable management of natural resources. The Institute’s formal name, mandate and mission remain unchanged.

Significance
The transition to UNU Resource Nexus provides a more direct expression of the Institute’s scientific focus and strengthens its visibility within the United Nations University system and among research, policy and practice communities working on interconnected resource challenges.
