PRISMA - Sustainability Assessment and Policy Award for groundbreaking research on sustainability assessment and policy Topic: circular economy in a sustainable society

PRISMA - Centre for Sustainability Assessment is a virtual platform for scientists and researchers from institutions including Technische Universität Dresden, UNU-FLORES, Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), as well as private companies to conduct joint research on assessment and policies for sustainability. The studies undertaken at PRISMA often consider geographical and time-related conditions, and involves the transfer of research results into politics, industry and society.

The first ever PRISMA - Sustainability Assessment and Policy Award has seen the submission of over 50 papers from across the world. The Jury was extremely impressed by the quality and relevance of these papers, and the process of choosing a winner was not an easy one. Therefore, the decision was made to recognize several outstanding publications by dividing the prize into three parts – consisting of one first and two second prizes, as listed in the following order:

1st Prize (1000 Euro)

“Towards a more circular construction sector: Estimating and spatialising current and future non-structural material replacement flows to maintain urban building stocks”

“The circularity gap of nations: A multiregional analysis of waste generation, recovery, and stock depletion in 2011”

2nd Prize (500 Euro)

"Coupling material circularity indicators and life cycle-based indicators: A proposal to advance the assessment of circular economy strategies at the product level”

  • Associate Professor Monia Niero, Aalborg University
  • Assistant Professor Pradip Kalbar, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

The official virtual Award Ceremony will take place during the Dresden Nexus Conference 2020 on 4 June, 13:30 pm GTM.

The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) series is dedicated to advancing a Nexus Approach to natural resource management. DNC is organised by the United Nations University (UNU-FLORES), the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), and the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER).
